Memorable Events

Goshen Pond

Scouts were not prepared for a very frigid weekend, but they made the best of it and built a dam over a nearby creek. It gave the kids a sense of accomplishment and teamwork. At Goshen Pond, new scouts earned their Toten Chip, Fireman Chit, and earned many requirements up the ladder towards the rank of Eagle. They also enjoyed the nights by playing glow in the dark Capture the Flag in the woods with another troop. Night vision goggles and fun were included.

Gettysburg

This was a family event that everyone will remember forever. This was mainly a backpacking and hiking trip to earn the Hiking requirement for their rank. The requirement states that you must hike for a minimum of eight miles, but due to poor directions, we ended up doubling that number and hiking sixteen miles. Don't get me wrong, it was a lot of fun, but it was very challenging, especially for the younger scouts. This sixteen miles gave us all a chance to bond. We truly bonded with everyone on the trip.We visited many historical sights, such as the Battlefield and Devil's Den. Devil's Den was truly an experience because some scouts ventured off into the woods, and came back screaming their lungs off because they felt like they just saw a ghost. We also visited a ghost field, and the way to distinguish if there is a ghost or not was to flash a light repeatedly towards the field. In a couple of moments, you would see flashing lights coming towards you. Another way to decipher if there is a ghost or not was to take a picture of the field with a camera. The camera would pick up an unidentified object as a red dot. That red dot would be a ghost. Everyone was amazed and scared at the same time.

Paddle-Ramma at Ressica Falls, Pennsylvania

This was a high adventure trip where the Scouts and leaders canoed for 80 miles down the Delaware River, from New York back to Ressica Falls. Scouts were only allowed to take food and equipment that were necessary for survival, and nothing more. Along the way, they slept on the banks of the river for 4 days. It should have been 5, but because our Troop is so awesome, we made it in record time, averaging about 20 miles per day. Everyone was buff after the trip. Along the way, we saw astonishing scenery, and about 11 Bald Eagles. Yeah, you read right, Bald Eagles! I bet you only thought they were in Alaska. Because we got back so early, the kids were able to experience mountain boarding, which is pretty much a skateboard with big wheels, and you go on mountains instead of roads. At the end of the trip, the scouts were rewarded with paddles, commemorating the fact that they made it back. Giving paddles to the kids and leaders was not a good idea because we all started using them to hit each other. All the other troops were looking at us, but we didn't care because we were the ones having fun.

Treasure Island, Pennsylvania

We went to summer camp here back in 2008. We went tubing down the Delaware River, and that was fun. All the kids and leaders had a blast, even when it started pouring rain. This was one of the summer camps where the food was pretty good. A lot of merit badges were completed in the week that we were there.
